Sir
Sean Connery
What
would Bond be without the start given him by Scotland's #1 son, Sean
Connery, born August 25th,1930. After being mentored by Dr. No director
Lewis Gilbert and refocused for refinement rather than roughneck representation
in film presentation, Connery's cool soon took on a life of its own.
Ever shrewd, Connery fought the Bond pigeonhole effect from the beginning
by completely shedding the signposts of Fleming's creation and further
accomplishing himself as an actor in a wide variety of lead and character
roles even as Bond made him the highest paid actor on the planet.
After leaving
the Bond role in 1971 Connery moved successfully through his career
as a leading man's man and worked with some of Hollywood's most noted
Directors. Then suddenly (again) there was great success!
Multi-million
dollar paydays in blockbusters like "The Rock" and an Academy
Award for his portrayal of the humble and violent Jimmy Malone in DePalma's
"Untouchables", a respected actor's triumph in the literate
"Finding Forrester".
Sean Connery's
"retirement" is still vague and undeclared to me. I have no
need to seek the clarity of such a dour notion. Apparently disillusioned
and moving away from films. Pity, just as he was growing into his perfection.
Many Thanks
Sir Sean, and Happy Birthday!
(p.s. Now GET OFF YOUR ASS and MAKE ME A MOVIE!)
